Les Néréides Loves Animals met Manon Leloup, who lives in Paris near the canal Saint Martin with her dog Bloemie.
Who is she?
Her name is Bloemie, she is three years old, she is a cross between a Springer Spaniel and a French Bulldog.
Can you tell us about your first meeting?
I came across an ad for her and her sister on a dog adoption forum, I was just daydreaming while surfing the net.
She had all the qualities I was looking for: a cross breed but we know the size of the parents, and especially two breeds that I know and I appreciate very much, a female and the pleasure of raising a little puppy. (Even if I think you can adopt an adul without having to worry)
I first went to see the refuge itself and then I went to meet her near the city of Orly. As she was not weaned, she was still staying at the refuge’s volunteer’s home.
When I opened the door, two small balls of energy threw themselves at my feet! I immediately knew that I would adopt one but still had to choose;
They were exactly the same except that Bloemie was a little more “round” and calmed down a little more when we took her in our arms.
So I went back for her a week later, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and I couldn’t decide on a name!
What’s her best quality?
Her expressiveness, she is funny without knowing it.
What’s her biggest flaw?
Her habit of settling at the table of other people on the same terrace of a bar (yes, sitting on a chair, around the table.)
Does she have a nickname and if so, why?
Princess because she makes me think of a spoiled little 2/3 years old girl, the center of the world.
Little bitch, because she would follow anyone who smells like chicken.
Cicciona, «chubby» in Italian.
What does her presence bring you on a daily basis?
Laughters, affection, fascination because I think she really has a beautiful “dress” and also the pleasure of being in charge of a small simple being who seems to be satisfied with very little, like all animals.
Which rescue did you go through to find her?
The refuge of the ARPA (Rissoise Association for the Protection of Animals)
located in Ris-Orangis (91130)
Like Bloemie, many dogs and cats are waiting to be adopted in shelters. If you want a pet, consider adopting rather than shopping
